It was during early childhood itself that I knew my calling. My mother was a significant influencer as I grew up watching her create various arts and craft. School is where I first started learning drawing and earned valuable certificates in drawing and other activities. Fine Arts was where I wanted to be and there was no better place than the JNTU College of Fine Arts. 5 years in fine arts were spent under the mentorship of some of the well known artists. College was my second home where I spent most of my waking hours trying my hand at sketching, drawing, clay modelling, photography and commercial art. After two years in college I took to a part time job and worked until the remaining 3 years of my college days with Doordarshan as a casual artist in the Art department of erstwhile only National TV channel. Here I had the privilege to work alongside Laxma Goud.
Completing fine arts degree from JNTU gave me the confidence and skill that earned me a role of a designer at a very well known textile printing unit called Shefali Fabrics. Shefali Fabrics had niche products catering to the taste of those who had an understading of art and were able to appreciate the work of an artist. The very famous artist Laxma goud introduced me at Shefali fabrics. Although I played the role that involved creating design into artwork for Japanese organizations and other desings at Shefali, I did not restrict my domain to this alone but showed a lot of interest and enthusiasm in the entire process of fabric design, printing and production. This genuine love for my work saw me moving closer to the entrepreneurs and founders of Shefali Fabrics, Mr Suresh Mehra, Meera Mehra and Daisy Mistry. It was this place that I expand from being an artist to being a Textile designer. My association with Laxma Goud continued with Shefail Fabrics and his black and white designs created for Shefali Fabrics used for bed spread, cushion covers, tote bags and a host of other niche products, fascinate and inspire me to this day and this influence can be seen on my designs.
After Shefali fabric was split into ENCORE and Shefali, I opted to work with Mr Mehra. ENCORE being a completely new unit, my responsibility at ENCORE was multifold. At ENCORE, being the chief architect, the influence of my designs reflected everywhere. Every single merchandise being sold at ENCORE was designed by me. Here at ENCORE, my knowledge about the printing process and textile printing as a business grew exponentially. I continued to contribute at ENCORE and worked alongside Mr Mehra. Those fifteen long years upto 1997 were the true formative years of my career that paved the way for my transformation into an entrpreneur myself.
15 years of total experience with Shefali and ENCORE culminated into a thought of going solo and creating my own label named ACCEDO, a latin word meaning 'ACCEPT' that also encompasses the essence of my name 'MANZOOR' which also means 'ACCEPT' in the urdu language. The idea was to create a complete textile design setup. From creating my own designs, sourcing the best cloth available in the market, creating the printing frames, printing the cloth, converting the printed material into bed spreads, cushion covers, suits, kaftans and many other products, I realized my dream in 1997. Initially, I rented out a place to perform the entire process from printing to creating the final product. The inventory was used for exhibitions in various prominent cities in India, Bangalore, Madras, Cochin, Mumbai and others. The encouraging response from these exhibitions paved the way for a permanent showroom in hyderabad which took shape six years later in 2003. The complete showroom was tastefully designed by me. Since 2003 there has been no looking back. I continue to showcase my products in exhibitions across India. When I am not preparing for exhibitions my time is divided between creating new designs for my products, overseeing the printing unit and a small amount of time managing the showroom at Hyderabad.
