Manzoor Hussain

From an early age I knew my calling lay in the world of art and design. My mother, a gifted craftsperson, was my first influence as I grew up surrounded by her creative energy, learning to appreciate form, color, and composition. School further nurtured this spark, where I began drawing and painting, earning several certificates in art and related activities. Fine Arts was where I truly belonged, and there was no better place to pursue that dream than the JNTU College of Fine Arts.

My five years at JNTU were transformative. Under the mentorship of some of the most well-known artists, I explored sketching, clay modeling, photography, and commercial art. College became my second home, a place where I learned to see design not just as decoration but as structure and balance. This understanding of form and proportion gradually drew me toward architecture and the beauty of buildings. I began to see art and architecture as two sides of the same creative spirit, each rooted in space, rhythm, and harmony.

After two years, I began working part time with Doordarshan as a casual artist in the Art Department of India’s national television network. There I had the privilege of working alongside the renowned artist Laxma Goud, whose deep sense of design and spatial understanding greatly influenced my artistic philosophy.

Completing my Fine Arts degree from JNTU gave me both confidence and skill, leading to a position as a designer at Shefali Fabrics, a well-known textile printing unit. Introduced by Laxma Goud himself, I was immersed in an environment where art met craftsmanship. My work involved translating designs into artwork for Japanese clients and exploring new ideas in textile design. My curiosity extended beyond aesthetics as I became deeply interested in the entire process of design, printing, and production. This holistic view mirrored the thinking process of architecture, where every detail contributes to the integrity of the final creation.

When Shefali Fabrics later split into Encore and Shefali, I chose to continue with Encore, led by Mr Suresh Mehra. As Chief Designer, my influence extended across every aspect of design and production. Each piece reflected my growing appreciation for structure, scale, and proportion, the same principles that form the foundation of architectural design. Over fifteen years at Shefali and Encore, I learned not only the art of textile design but also the discipline of designing with purpose and functionality.

In 1997, these experiences culminated in the creation of my own label ACCEDO, a Latin word meaning accept, which also reflects the Urdu meaning of my name Manzoor. I envisioned ACCEDO as a complete design studio where art, material, and space could harmonize. From developing my own textile designs to sourcing fabrics, creating printing frames, and producing finished products such as bedspreads, cushion covers, and kaftans, every step reflected my belief that good design, like good architecture, emerges from the seamless blend of creativity and craftsmanship.

By 2003, I opened my first showroom in Hyderabad which I personally designed with careful attention to spatial flow, lighting, and texture. Every corner of the space reflected the same care and composition that guide my art. Since then, I have continued to showcase my collections across India, while dedicating time to developing new designs, managing the printing unit, and curating the visual and spatial identity of my brand.
